THE SUBJECT MATTER

The same fiber, a second time.

Cashmere garments and offcuts are sorted by color, returned to their fiber state, and respun. This is not a recent invention: it has been done in Prato since the 19th century, and today the same principle is applied to cashmere.

The color comes from the sorting process, not from dyeing—hence a fraction of the water usage of dyed yarn, and in exchange, a more limited color palette. It is not second-rate cashmere; it is the same fiber, with a chosen constraint.
